CITCOM

CITCOM

November 2013 to October 2015 european

2013 is the European Year of the Citizen and the focus of activity should be on understanding and promoting the idea and practice of citizenship, in terms of European and more local forms of citizenship.
Much of what has gone before has focused on the more concrete, direct and individual aspects of citizenship such as participation in formal politics and voting procedures and individual rights and responsibilities of ‘the citizen’.

What it has not dealt with is the ‘lack of belonging’ that affects so many and leads to disengagement and apathy. There are limited feeling of belonging to their own localities, regions or states never mind to Europe. Worse than this is the negative view of ‘Europe’ as just another level of bureaucracy, red tape and pressure, something that does not belong to the people but is something forced on them or unrelated to them, a view that is often reinforced by the media. In addition, Europe’s constituent elements are seen as ‘foreign’ to one another, in competition for scarce resources. The resultant situation is increasing disengagement from politics in general, creating a limited citizenship, one that is confused by its identity/ies and angry about ‘others’. Such citizenship cannot deal with change or fully participate in the processes required to face the pressures exerted upon it and cannot contribute fully to a more inclusive Europe.

Yet in such increasing global and pressured contexts, people and communities who embrace open mindedness, enable creativity and understand change as a positive force, are more resilient and sustainable. Being able to communicate and collaborate with people across boundaries, share experience-based knowledge, learn the skills required for positive engagement help us recognize, develop and enhance our values and practices locally and at European level.

The development of an inclusive civic life, whether with interest or place communities, is a vital factor in any individual or community's emotional, economic and socio-cultural well-being. That is all more effective when relationships between all stakeholders is a positive one. Communities are built by people and strong communities are those with strong connections between people that diminish social exclusion and isolation, allow for creative actions.

We aim to work with individuals, groups and communities to:

  • Increase sense of belonging and trust, reduce conflict and despondency by undertaking practical steps to build a collaborative and active citizenry
  • Broaden understanding and practice of citizenship and extend knowledge and practice on community development processes
  • Build community and citizenship skills to ensure sustainability and resilience

Happy Home Wallet

Happy Home Wallet

September 2013 to July 2015 european

The worldwide economic crisis during the last years changed the lives of people around the world. The widespread prosperity that characterized the years preceding the crisis has affected the ability to manage rationally the basic needs of people, along with losing this knowledge that had been handed down for generations. In fact, the historical past economic contingencies, the crisis of 1929, the two world wars had forced citizens to reduce waste and reuse the raw materials available for their daily needs. The development of the postwar period, the connected prosperity and mass consumption have completely removed the competence and awareness about the limits of natural resources. Nowadays, we are in a situation very similar to these postwar years, however, with some differences due to the fact that rural development is limited, most of the inhabitants live in urban structures and that the system of basic services distributed by states or private companies (water, electricity, gas, etc..) does not allow autonomy and limits the self-sufficiency.

The specific objective of the project Happy Home Wallet is to activate a partnership dedicated to the promotion of the "zero waste" strategy by acquiring competences in economics, environmental sustainability, energy saving and thus proper management of economic family resources. To balance the family budget it's necessary to re-think our consumerism, limit waste and reorganize resources, in a way that combines micro and macro economic aspects with environmental sustainability. The approach is therefore to look back to rediscover the value of knowledge of creative reusing materials and reducing waste as that was, not long time ago, the basis of the local economy. This project offers the possibility to get to know (new) ideas, to change our behaviour and to be able to act. In the two years project, partners from 9 European countries, invite local participants, associations, municipalities and educational institutions to discuss, share and learn from each other, performing workshops and get to know the culture of these countries.

Garden Future

Garden Future

September 2012 to July 2014 european

The world wide search for alternatives for sustainable living in urban and rural areas includes finding alternatives for self-provisioning by growing food and respecting the environment to ensure a healthy life. In marginalized rural areas, the economical situation has been always tightly connected to the environmental conditions that influence the social and economic life of the people living there.

Historically the majority of income was based on agriculture, on the cultivation of small pieces of land or gardens with growing vegetables and fruits. This very often supplied a whole family and was also a source of income or bargaining. The knowledge of cultivation and the traditional techniques to exploit the grounds in the place of living was passed from generation to generation through empirical observation and manual practice – experiential learning. Increasing urbanization and industrialization moved people away from the care of their own sustenance and promoted a society focused on consumerism with an attendant alienation from nature. The massive loss of working opportunities is forcing people to look back and to rediscover the value of knowledge that was, not long time ago, the basis of their local economy. It is important for rural areas to develop alternative scenarios for a sustainable living which complements the needs for a healthy and environmentally respectful life. Our overall aim is it to change our view on gardening and raise awareness for our responsibility to live a sustainable life beyond consumerism.

We will

  • Learn how to use available spaces and turn them into a regular source of food
  • Find trends and tendencies about gardening in the world
  • Learn about safe products for people & the environment
  • Share the harvest with our neighbours & thus develop a local market for local producers to share local products

Family Business

Family Business

August 2011 to July 2013 european

Family-owned businesses operate in every country and may be the oldest form of business organization in the world. They distinguish oneself by voting agreements as a basis for decisions, consistent management objectives, long term strategies and conservative approach to risks as the business is the foundation for family wealth.

These companies play a vital role in regional and local economies as they employ people from their area.

The family culture and the family network shape their business acting. The highest interest is paid on continuation of the family business but one of the biggest problems nowadays are problems of generational changes and continuation of the business.

We want to record the history of the family business as a useful method to improve communication and understanding among family members. Telling the story of how the business was founded, its struggles and development helps members of succeeding generations better understand the values and attitudes of the family toward the business.

This helps to preserve unique business culture and can be a good marketing tool too. It is also a training ground, a way of narrative retention and transfer of management knowledge which helps in professionalising the family business according to the global challenges.

cocoate.com coordinates that two years project, partners are institutions with different backgrounds from Wales, Lithuania, Latvia and Turkey.

About houses

About houses

November 2010 to October 2012 european

Everyone lives in a house. A house is the culmination of personal wishes, desires and ideas about life. It is visible in architecture, inseparable from one's personal and "larger" history. The project wants to bring people together to explore their local history, learn about architecture, building, web publishing and design at the same time. We want to sensitize people about their direct impact on their environment, develop a basic understanding of construction and efficient use of materials to maintain houses in their original character. And, we want to develop a deeper sense of taste and respect for architecture.

  • It will be a start of a participatory process between local stakeholders, decision makers and local people about the development of sustainable touristic structures. We want to share experiences, find similarities and develop new approaches by establishing regular discussion roundtables in each partners region.
  • We are going to write a local/regional touristic guide. We will pick out locations of character, those with personal connections and let people tell why they are special, unique and important for them and address why people should visit these places.

eTrust

eTrust

August 2009 to July 2011 european

The main aim of our project is to analyse and assess e-learning materials on H&S for potential migrant workers from different countries. It is going to be done by identifying and evaluating e-learning tools available in each of the partner countries. The expected result of the project is a thorough comparison and assessment of e-learning content, analysis of differences between partner countries.

Each partner will share their experience connected with H&S topic and cultural and language diversity will give wider perspective to the research. Partners will create common criteria of assessing quality, availability, usefulness of e-learning tools and select a set of them from each country to be tested by target groups (potential migrant workers, employers, trainers). Their views, opinions and evaluation will enable partner groups to draw final conclusions and answer project questions:

  • if it is easy to find reliable materials
  • if the available tools are good enough to help potential migrants to feel comfortable in a country they go to
  • if the methods used by trainers are effective
  • what can be done to improve the approach and the e-learning tools.

Our idea is that the project should encourage migrants and employers to use e-learning tools in the process of H&S training. Institutions preparing learning tools, thanks to our conclusions, should be able to improve their approach and materials they offer. All target groups should benefit from it.

greenlight

greenlight

November 2008 to October 2010 european

The project aims to build capacity of a range of people, socially and economically disadvantaged, that have suffered loss of self esteem and self worth and are increasingly in danger of isolation even within their own societies.

These widely varying situations include marginalised young and older people and (for one partner) migrants and (in another partner) increasing migrancy. The project uses a varied, innovative, creative approach which will involve the participants, in some instances working across generations, in controlling the process by researching, developing, managing and evaluating an activity which has the potential for observable public benefit.

Telenovel

Telenovel

November 2008 to July 2010 european

The project will encourage senior citizens to reactivate themselves in the lifelong learning process. Elderly people are usually not willing to take part in learning any longer, but they do like watching TV, especially telenovels. We want to use TV shows and telenovel as a tool to learn Spanish language by creating our own multicultural telenovel.

MALT

MALT

December 2007 to November 2009 european

The project idea comes out from a previous transnational exchange during the development of a G2 project in which partners have realized that they have similar needs respect the maintenance of adult people on training courses although final beneficiaries have different peculiarities connected to each partner context. The most important difficulty concerns the fact that every country uses some different teaching methodologies related to the national rules. The proposal is therefore that to be able to homologise such methodologies using a common one that would also allow the exchange of the teachers/trainers and of competences at a European level.

For this reason the simplest solution, keeping in mind of the positive experience of the ECDL, it is to create a training/educational course that allow teachers and educator at a European level to use the same training methodology. Such methodology is concretized in the CPD course. To spread the development of such course and the results of the project the most practical tool was the creation of a transnational association. The advantages for the members can be multiple:

  • adopt a methodology of teaching recognized in different European countries
  • have the possibility to work in foreign countries and exchange competences at a European level.
  • know new and more active teaching methodologies (with the use of IT tools) to better maintain students at school

eduate.eu is responsible for

  • the development of the website using Drupal Content Manangement System (CMS) that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website
  • organize the management of the website, depending on the decisions taken during the meeting between partners, adding different tools for community development like Blogs, collaborative authoring environments, forums, peer-to-peer networking, newsletter system, podcasting, picture galleries, file uploads and downloads.
  • depending on the use for the teaching bank and the association add an online form to be part of the association, open a space where to access only by personal password to download documents of the teaching bank and other contents
  • develop of a sustainable teachers /tutors association platform

Strategical Individual Competencies

Strategical Individual Competencies

October 2006 to September 2008 european

While integrating into multicultural market of European labour force, with different systems of learning and education, different traditions in the sphere of human resource management, the success of human resources first of all depends on strategical competencies of individuals. The development of strategical individual competencies involves the catalogue of these competencies and their development methodology, which is not limited to organization, sector or country, because fast processes of euro integration, complementary structure of business links, and dynamism of markets require strategic guidelines for the development of united strategical individual competencies.

cross cooking & learning

cross cooking & learning

September 2006 to July 2008 european

The 2-years learning partnership aimed to rediscover and preserve traditions in cooking across Europe, enhancing the possibilities of learning and cross-generational cohesion. Institutions from five European countries built intergenerational peer groups to enable greater integration and learning so that younger people learn to cook by working with the older people in the rural communities and, in turn, help these develop and record the food preparation, cooking and festivities.
