This recipe book is an international delight!

It was born out of a wish to ensure the continuation of traditional cooking and a need to find new ways to collect and record traditional knowledge. To achieve these aims each of the participating countries set up four cooking groups in their regions. We made friends across the generations and across borders and got to understand the idea of Europe a little better.

"Joomla! 1.7: Beginner's Guide" and "Joomla! Development: A Beginner's Guide" has been nominated for a 2012 Small Business Book Award in the category of Technology.

Joomla! 1.7 Beginner's Guide Joomla! Development - A Beginner's Guide

The Small Business Book Awards recognize business books that were published in 2011. Small business owners often seek advice and information through books. While there are many thousands of books published each year, it's those of interest to small businesses and entrepreneurs that the Small Business Book Awards seek to honor.

"With so many books being published each year, we wanted to recognize those that made a difference to small business owners and managers and startup entrepreneurs," said Ivana Taylor, Book Editor at Small Business Trends, which produces the Awards. "Our annual Small Business Book Awards are a way to highlight the books that entrepreneurs are reading and learning from."

The Awards are an honor to the authors who write books for the small business and entrepreneurial community. Says Anita Campbell, CEO of Small Business Trends, "For many of the authors, writing a book is a labor of love. Often they get up early in the morning before the rest of the family awakes, and they devote their evenings, weekends, holidays and vacations to writing. They deserve recognition."

Download Widget for Free Joomla Books

Submitted by Hagen Graf on 11. November 2011 - 20:16

Embed WidgetBecause a few people asked me I just created a widget to embed the download links for the free Joomla! PDF books into your website.

The idea is to give other websites the possibility to offer the link to the free PDF's on their website. If someone clicks the link, the PDF will be downloaded immediately without leaving your website.

In the header area I inserted a link to our website ... well ... I am always looking for sponsors :).

I am not sure whether it is a good idea but I would like to hear your opinion.

You find the embed code below the download box in the right sidebar.

Now I need someone to test and help me to tweak it :)

Please help me and embed it where you want and please give me feedback on layout, whether it works or not, etc.

[UPDATE]

It is working but it'll break the css of the templates ... tested in Joomla! and WordPress (thanks to @robertvining, @jwillin, @k2joom). Stay tuned :)

[UPDATE 2]

Deleted the embed code thing ... doesn't work very good. Instead I created a Joomla! module for that :)

Simplified Download Process

Submitted by Hagen Graf on 31. October 2011 - 10:37

Keep it simple, stupid (and short)For the last three months we have used the e-commerce system at our cocoate site to manage the free downloads.

I basically wanted and still want to know how many pdfs were downloaded and from which part of the world. The checkout process additionally gave the possibility to the downloaders to donate something and a few people did - Thank you for that.

We received a lot of comments concerning the checkout process. Some people complained that the pdfs are not for free anymore if it is necessary to provide an email and your country. Other people liked the process because afterwards they had a user account on cocoate and all their downloads on one place.

Nevertheless I agree that the process was too complicated for a free download and so we simplified it radically!
